Dianne Dyson Heggie was 7 years old when she received her first camera as a Christmas present. In the years after that, she concentrated on documenting things like school trips and Girl Scout outings. In college, she enjoyed photographing friends at birthday parties and just hanging out on campus with friends. With the purchase of her first SLR in the late 1970’s, she discovered the full creative possibilities of photography and has been working since then to enhance her skills.
Her favorite subjects are wildlife and other aspects of the natural world, especially wildlife and water lilies. Communing with nature helps alleviate the pressures of everyday life; photographing nature allows Dianne to share with others her experiences “in the wild.”
After joining the Southeast Queens Camera Club in 2016, Dianne found that her photographic skills and interests have expanded considerably. While nature photography remains her first love, she has begun to explore sports photography and become more adept at improving her images through effective photo editing.
Dianne credits her membership in SEQCC with giving her opportunities to share her work and publicize the Club’s activities. She has participated in the annual art show sponsored by Southern Queens Park Association on three occasions. Her images were included in two of the Club’s exhibits at Resorts World Casino’s Red Wall Gallery. In 2018, Dianne received a 2nd Place Leonard Victor Award from the Photographic Federation of Long Island for her image “Lone Egret.” In 2020, her image “Eat Your Veggies” won a 1st -place Leonard Victor Award.
