Competition Rules and Regulations for 2025–26
Competitions
The Southeast Queens Camera Club holds up to six (6) regular competitions from September to April in six categories:
- Black and White Prints
- Color Prints
- Creative Digitals
- Digital Color Images
- Digital Black and White Images
- Macro/Close-Up Digital Images
Only members whose dues are paid for the year may compete. Dues must be paid at least one week before the competition entry date.
Schedule: The competition schedule will be issued in September (or earlier) and published in our newsletter. Competitions take place on the 4th Tuesday of October, November, January, February, March, and April. Best of the Best is held in May.
SEQCC Competition Classification Policy
Initial Placement
- All new members shall compete in Class B during their first competitive season with SEQCC.
- Any member transferring from another Photographic Federation of Long Island (PFLI) club shall retain the competition class they held in their previous club.
Scoring System
- Each image is scored from 7–9, worth 1–3 points.
- A member may submit up to 3 images per category per competition.
- Maximum per category: 9 points (3 images × 3 points each).
- An Image of the Month award in that category adds +1 bonus point.
- Maximum possible score per category, per competition = 10 points.
Entry limits per month up to:
- 3 Black & White Prints
- 3 Color Prints
- 3 Creative Digitals
- 3 Digital Color
- 3 Digital B&W
- 3 Macro/Close-Up Digitals
(max 18 images across 6 categories per competition month).
Black & White standard (updated): B&W images must be monochromatic or monochromatically toned overall. Selective/specific-area color is not permitted and will be subject to disqualification or reclassification into Color.
Submissions & Scoring
Submission: All images must be submitted via PhotoContest Pro by midnight on the Friday before competition. Selected B&W and Color entries for PFLI must be in print format.
Competition scoring range: 6–9 points.
Standings points conversion:
- 9 → 3 points
- 8 → 2 points
- 7 → 1 point
- 6 → 0 points
Image of the Month: The judge will select one “image of the Month” in each category from among the top rated photographs scoring at least eight points. 1 bonus point will be awarded to the Image of the Month.
Re-entries: Winning photographs may not be re-entered in future SEQCC competitions except for the current season’s Best of the Best. Winning photographs in one medium may not be re-entered in a different medium. Images scoring 6 may be re-edited and submitted once in any current or future season.
Standings: Competition Standing scores for each medium are tabulated during the season and posted in the SEQCC Newsletter. The sum of points earned during the regular season determines Photographer of the Year awards in all classes and categories.
